RYA Power Boat

Introduction to boating techniques for launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment.

Course type: POWERBOAT Level 1
Suggested minimum pre-course experience: None
Assumed knowledge: None. Minimum age 8. Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued an endorsed certifcate.
Course content: Launching and preparing the boat, basic boat handling and returning to shore. Background theory.
Ability after course: Able to drive under supervision
Minimum duration: One day

Provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.

Course type: POWERBOAT Level 2
Suggested minimum pre-course experience: None. May be preceded by Level 1
Assumed knowledge: None. Minimum age 12. Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued an endorsed certifcate.
Course content: All you need to know for self-sufficient poweboating at a basic level. Course includes launching, mooring, anchoring and recovery plus all the boat driving skills required for basic competence in a powerboat.
Ability after course: Self-sufficient powerboat in the right conditions: aware of own limitations and those of craft.
Minimum duration: Two days or a direct assessment

This two-day course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies windsurfers or canoes or for racing or training activities.

Course type: POWERBOAT - Safetyboat
Suggested minimum pre-course experience: RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate must be held prior to the course.
Assumed knowledge: Minimum age 16. Basic understanding of sailing boats.
Course content: Boat handling, rescue techniques for sailing dinghies, windsurfers and canoes, and tows.
Ability after course: Able to provide safety cover to a range of craft, particularly sailing or windsurfing.
Minimum duration: Two days.

 

RYA Sailing

Introduction to the sport of sailing. Covers all you need to know to get afloat under supervision.

Course type: DINGHY Level 1
Suggested minimum pre-course experience: None.
Assumed knowledge: None.
Course content: How to sail in all directions, including an awareness of launching and recovery.
Ability after course: Able to sail in light winds under supervision.
Minimum duration: 2 days minimum.

This course sets out the foundations of sailing for you. By the end of it you'll be a competent light wind sailor.

Course type: DINGHY Level 2
Suggested minimum pre-course experience:
Assumed knowledge: Knowledge to Level 1 standard
Course content: Often combined with Level 1 into a 4 or 5 day course. Rigging, launching, sailing in all directions. Capsize recovery and essential safety background
Ability after course: Able to sail and make decisions in good conditions
Minimum duration: 2 days minimum
