This 1 day course will enable delegates to look carefully at their own work activities and contribute to the development of safer methods and tasks in co-operation with their managers and supervisors
Learning objectivesAt the end of the course delegates should be able to:
- Explain what is meant by the term 'manual handling'
- Explain how manual handling can cause injuries and give examples
- State the principles for controlling manual handling risks and apply them in a practical context
- Demonstrate a general understanding of the value and purpose of conducting a manual handling assessment and what employees can expect of such assessments

- The responsibilities imposed by the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
- Manual handling injuries
- Controlling the risks
- Safer handling techniques
Where possible, the organisation's existing policies, procedures and documentation will be used during the course to ensure that delegates understand:
- The organisation's policy/procedures relating to manual handling
- Their role and responsibilities
- How to complete any forms and documentation provided
- Where to find further information and help within the organisation
- The organisation's health & safety management system
